Old School Wolverton Cafe

A message from the owners:

The Old School Café is a friendly, community operated coffee shop offering cake and coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea. Opening times: Tuesday – Friday 10am-3pm, 1st Saturday of the month only. Located in a conservatory style extension to the building, with lovely views of the Old School grounds. It can seat up to 18 people inside, and has a large outdoor area seating up to 22 people. Walkers and dogs are very welcome, and cycle racks are available for visiting cyclists. We always have vegan and gluten free options on the menu. The Old School is operated by Future Wolverton, a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, and it operates very differently from most community buildings. The three social enterprises that are based at the building are run by a small team of paid staff, who work alongside Work Placement Trainees. Our trainees come from a variety of backgrounds, but all of them need some extra support on their personal journey to paid employment. The Old School provides a place where they can experience a variety of work tasks, and gain skills and qualifications.

The Menu

The Old School in Wolverton offers a delightful menu that caters to a variety of tastes, featuring a special focus on brunch and lunch options. For brunch, available from 10 am to 2 pm, patrons can enjoy a range of breakfast items until midday, including the Classic Breakfast with bacon, eggs, beans, and toast, and vegetarian and vegan alternatives featuring vegan sausages, mushrooms, and tomatoes. Additional options include breakfast rolls with bacon or vegan sausage, eggs on toast, and beans on toast, with the flexibility to add extras like fried mushrooms, tomatoes, and various spreads.

The children’s menu offers simpler choices such as toast with butter and optional spreads, beans on toast, and scrambled egg on toast, ensuring there’s something for the little ones.

For those with a penchant for toasted sandwiches, the lunch menu, served from 11 am to 2 pm, presents a variety of fillings ranging from mature cheddar with red onion to more gourmet options like Brie with locally made chutney and mozzarella with tomato and pesto. Homemade sauce rolls, soup of the day, and a daily special provide additional hearty options.

The café takes pride in its selection of hot drinks, supplied by Wooden Hill Coffee Company, offering everything from espresso and Americano to more indulgent choices like mochas and hot chocolates, complete with vegan options. Tea lovers are not forgotten, with a selection of Fairtrade teas available.

Sweet treats round off the menu, with options like sweet or savoury cream tea, featuring homemade scones, and toasted teacakes, ensuring a satisfying end to any meal.
